Step 3 – Exercise

How much do you normally exercise and what type of exercise do you do? Exercise is different for each person and you ought not to start any vigorous exercise plan without talking to your doctor first.

I like to jog a bit, either outdoors or on the treadmill. I like the outdoors because it’s fresh and full of nature where I run. But I like the treadmill because it’s less taxing; I tend to push harder when I’m outdoors.

I also like to walk, both vigorously on the treadmill, and leisurely with Ronda in the parks and trails.

I also like to use weights to strengthen muscles that we typically ignore as we age. And I have also tried things like Qi Gong. The key is to find something you enjoy doing and will continue doing.

There are so many ways to exercise these days, it doesn’t have to be hard. A lot of people are buying the Nintendo Wii games now and having fun while getting their exercise.

New studies are showing that just getting up and moving more throughout the day is very helpful. Of course the more you get up and move the better it is for you.

Exercise teaches your brain that behavior matters. Write down what you do for exercise each day.

Step 4 – Meditation

I watch wildlife, the rabbits, raccoons, birds, squirrels, and people. I look at the trees, the landscape, I listen to the sounds around me and heighten my sense of feeling.

You may have a different way to meditate, perhaps in a cross-legged yoga pose chanting mmmm. Whatever way you can free your mind – good on you.

Because meditation helps our brain get over the cultural ADHD we’ve been creating by trying to multi-task, doing multiple things at once all the time. Meditation allows you to focus on the task at hand.

Keep notes on how you meditated each day.
