Want the secret to achievement?
Have you ever wanted to achieve something big?
Well, I’ve got the secret to achievement for you right here today!
Now, I have to be careful because if I tell you what it is you’ll brush it off, so I have to build it up and do a drum roll before I give it to you.
So, let me first tell you about my early life of none achievement, which I used to call failure.
I was very aware, actually too aware, of the fact that I was not overly school educated, or from a wealthy family. So much so that I was often focused on this whenever I was in the presence of others — focusing on not living up to others standards.
You might have had a similar experience if you can think back to a time in a schoolroom when a teacher asked you to stand up and give an answer to a question. And even if you knew the answer, your focus was on how everyone would laugh at you when you screwed up.
When – NOT If
Notice I said WHEN you screwed up, not IF you screwed up.
And, because you were already convinced of failure and the inevitable result of humiliation in front of the whole class – you screwed up.
It’s like the story of the Archer:
When an archer is shooting for nothing, he has all his skill. If he shoots for a brass buckle, he is already nervous. If he shoots for a prize of gold, he goes blind or sees two targets – he is out of his mind!
His skill has not changed. But the prize divides him. He cares. He thinks more of winning than of shooting and the need to win drains him of power.
So, Maestro, drum roll, please …
The secret to achievement is – Focus!
Focus like a laser beam on what you are trying to achieve.
